William Temple House is my absolute favorite place to volunteer. On Tuesdays I spend my mornings helping out in their awesome food pantry [seriously, it’s pretty great. They get donations from Trader Joe’s and buy mass quantities from the Oregon Food Bank. With these two streams of suppliers, they’ve built a “corner store” type atmosphere for clients. Folks can go there once a month and shop like they would at any small grocery, but there’s no payment or check-out, only a check-in when they arrive]. I also provide shoddy Russian translations and interpretations services (я не переводчик, просто студент русского языка). And for the last two years, I’ve also served as an event photographer for their annual “Lifting Spirits” fundraiser gala.
