Artist Statement

Why make art?

I am obsessed! You know that thing that happens when you get a song stuck in your head? I get like that, but with social abnormalities, historic events, politics, popular culture, and technology. My work is an effort to pick at these topics and try to discover something meaningful along the way – while also acknowledging that an answer might always be out of reach.

I use common materials in my work: wood, plastic, metal, paper, and fabric. I might throw in some computer hardware, or a piece of modified code if necessary. It really just depends on what the work needs. Often the goal is to make something unusual, yet also comprehensible. I want the viewer to feel like I’m shaking their hand, smiling and looking them in the eye – right up to the moment before that gets to be uncomfortable.
